Should you try? Stick to non-buffet restaurants in the city

Ichi Umi

Buffets, particularly sushi buffets, ALWAYS sound like the best idea ever. That is until you finish your 6th plate of food, and you immediately regret your gluttonous moment. Buffets are probably the last thing you think of when you think of dining out in the city, but Ichi Umi provides a mix of sushi as well as Chinese, Korean and Japanese food. It comes out to around $30 for dinner, which is average for the city.

I’ve been to Ichi Umi several times, and I was impressed at first. They do offer a lot of sushi options, as well as crab legs, oysters, ramen and warm Chinese, Japanese and Korean food. What’s not to like?

But my main gripe with Ichi Umi is their inconsistency. There have been times where the warm food was better than the sushi, then other times when the latter was better. The last time I went, I left thinking the quality of the food has gone down. This isn’t to say the food is terrible, but for $30 you can get a better meal in the city.

There are so many options to try though, it must be worth it since it’s all you can eat and can put down what you don’t like and get more of what you do. wouldn’t you say?

True, I suppose that’s with any buffet. But there are so many good restaurants, and for the price, I just think you can get a better meal elsewhere. Even just down the block in Ktown there are a bunch of good restaurants for the same price or even less.

A sushi buffet would be heaven!!! That is coming from someone whose closest sushi restaurant is an hour away :( and the closest thing to it is hard dried sushi you get in sainsbury’s BLURGG

Haha yea if there weren’t a million sushi places in the city, I would go to this place every day! Come visit NYC and you can have as much fresh sushi as you want!
