Should you try? Yes, great sandwiches
The old school Brooklyn, family-run shop is now in Gramercy, and I recently made my way over there. I tried the Hot Roast Beef (roast beef, fresh mozzarella, fried eggplant, natural jus; 11.50 + tax ~ $12.50), which was enormous (on par with the size of Faicco’s sandwiches) and packed with roast beef. All of the ingredients just taste really fresh, which is what you’d expect with homemade ingredients.
The homemade bread is fresh, crunchy on the outside, and doughy in the middle. The natural jus poured onto one side of the bread was a nice touch, adding some extra beefy, salty flavor to the sandwich. The roast beef itself was tasty and moist, while the fried eggplant added that extra something sandwiches often lack.
Only complaints: More fresh homemade mozzarella and fried eggplant on the sandwich!
Next Up: The Greaseball – Meatball and Ricotta. Enough said.
